Bangkok Part 2

Yesterday we started out the day by visiting Wat Pho. Another extremely impressive and beautiful palace which was home to an array of different sculptures and statues. One of them that was amazing too see was a 46 meter long Buddha laying down known as ‘reclining Buddha’. The sheer size of it was breathtaking. I love the temples here as you get such a sense of peace and stillness within them amongst all the hustle and bustle of the tourists and nonstop traffic just outside which is really nice.

This was a total contrast from the craziness of yesterday night when we visited Khao San Road, one of Bangkok’s most popular strips. Going from bar to bar, getting some street food and even ending up at the local ‘table tennis’ club (that was interesting). It was a crazy place. I’ve never seen a place so booming in my life. Thousands and thousands of tourists indulging in the Thai night life until the early hours of the morning.

As for today it is currently 2pm in Thailand and we spent the morning at Damnoen Saduak floating markets. This was great experience being rowed around these canals with stalls at either side of the waters edge. They sold all sorts of things, from huge paintings of elephants to phallic ash trays. The journey there took around 1 hour 45 minute and around the same on the way back. It was all organised by the hostel and for a price of 450 baht including the boat ride I would recommend it to anyone. I feel as if we have managed to see a very decent amount of Bangkok before we leave for Krabi on Friday night and look forward to returning in May when my journey comes to a close.
